The Butler Area Transit Authority could soon approve a new contract with their current subcontractor providing bus driving services.
A request for proposal from the Authority received two responses, including one from current provider MV Transportation, based in Texas and Butler Motor Transit Coach USA.
Executive Director John Paul was joined in a review of the proposals by the directors of transit authorities in Westmoreland and Lackawanna Counties. While the two proposals were similar in experience and technical ability, MV was able to offer greater cost savings.
MV has offered to provide bus drivers for an average of just over $1.5 million per year. The authority’s current contract with MV is for approximately $1.1 million this year.
Based on this evaluation, the authority will engage in a negotiation with MV transportation on a new three year contract with an option for two additional years to provide fixed route and commuter service that would begin July 1st.
