Butler Township is once again applying for grant money in order to make improvements to local parks.
Township Commissioners passed a motion Monday night to comply with the requirements of the Butler County Parks Renovation Program in order to file their application before it is due later this month.
Under this program, the township can request a maximum of $7,500 from the county with a commitment to kick in at least an additional $2,500. The township has previously received financial help through this grant to make improvements to Preston Park.
According to Township Manager Tom Knights, this year the money is being requested to put toward a $40,000 project to install lighting for the pickleball courts at Butler Township Park.
Once the application has been submitted, a committee from the county is expected to review requests and decide which ones can be funded with notification issued sometime in late April or early May.
