Butler County Community College is providing more information about a ransomware attack in late November.
A third-party forensic firm has informed BC3 that that those responsible for the device encryptions acquired files from college servers.
BC3 and the third-party forensic cybersecurity firm are reviewing which files were affected and will provide direct notice to anyone whose personal information may have been compromised.
The college is also cooperating with an ongoing FBI investigation. BC3 IT employees have rebuilt every PC on the college’s main campus and additional campuses as well as rebuilt remote access services and restored data center servers.
The college did not pay any money to end the attack and cites ongoing assessments in declining to provide further information.
