The Slippery Rock University football team fell 38-32 to Kutztown in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship game Saturday, but have received an “at-large” bid to play in the 28-team NCAA Division II tournament. The Rock is the #6 seed and will visit #3-seed Notre Dame College in Ohio this Saturday in the opening round. With their victory, Kutztown earned the top seed in the region and a first-round “bye”.
Slippery Rock, making its third consecutive NCAA playoff appearance, has lost four starters to season-ending knee injuries in the past two games. They lost star wide receiver Jermaine Wynn, Jr. in the first half of Saturday’s game.
Penn State fell 21-17 to Michigan Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions have fallen out of the nation’s top-25 after their fourth loss of the season.
Pitt has moved up to #20 this week in the latest Associated Press rankings. Georgia remains #1. Alabama has moved to #2. Cincinnati fell to #3. Oregon and Ohio State round out the top five.
