The Butler Golden Tornado football team tallied their first section win by defeating Shaler Friday night 34-16.
Butler started the scoring with a 24 yard touchdown run by Antonio Devaughn with 6:50 left in the first quarter. Shaler fired back immediately by running the kickoff back 66 yards for a touchdown tying the game at 7-7. Butler’s Dallas Hays ran for two touchdowns in the second quarter from 11 yards out and from 3 yards out. The Titans kicked a field goal late in the second quarter to make the score 21-10 at halftime.
Neither team scored any points in the third quarter. Shaler scored a touchdown to start the fourth quarter and missed the two point conversion attempt making the score 21-16. The Golden Tornado ran away with the game from there with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and then a 34 yard touchdown run both by Luke Michalek.
Butler is now 1-3 in the section and 2-3 overall and host Central Catholic next Friday night. Coverage of that game can be heard on 1050 am WBUT and online at wbut.com as well as msasports.net.
