The group behind the annual Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival has donated $20,000 to 19 local nonprofits.
President Rodney Schaffer said the board of directors felt strongly that a portion of the festival’s proceeds needed to support Butler County non-profit and civic organizations.
“These gifts are an example of how the time of talents of our more than 400 volunteers are used to not just benefit the festival, but to help our entire community,” Schaffer said in a statement.
The $20,000 awarded this year came from money made from June’s festival.
The donations ranged from $500 to $3,000. Money was awarded to these organizations:
- Bantam Marine Detachment 743
- Butler County Historical Society
- Butler County Humane Society
- Butler County American Legion Riders
- Butler County Symphony Association
- Butler Meals on Wheels, Inc.
- Candle, Inc. – Reality Tour
- Center for Community Resources
- Community Health Clinic of Butler County
- CompeerCORPS
- General Butler Chapter #64 of the Disabled American Veterans
- Heritage Region Jeep Alliance
- Karns City UAA Youth Baseball
- Mars Area History and Landmarks Society
- North Country Trail Alliance- Butler Chapter
- Nevin’s Hunting Friends
- Summer Dramatics Project
- The Sage Collector
- Zelienople-Evans City Meals on Wheels
Organizers say more than 60 groups submitted requests for funds.
“Our 2016 recipients represent a wide-range of services to our county and they all have projects that impact thousands of our residents,” Schaffer said.
The Butler County Historical Society received the largest gift. They will use the money to install four murals that were painted by the Walldogs this summer that have not yet been mounted.
The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival attracts more than 2,000 Jeeps into Butler County each summer to celebrate Butler as the birthplace of the Jeep.
