The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 11-7 to the Washington Nationals at PNC Park Sunday. The Nationals took two of three games in the series. The benches emptied during the game after Washington outfielder Bryce Harper injured a thumb when Pirates third baseman Jung Ho Kang faked a tag. The Nationals threw a ball behind Kang’s head in the bottom of that inning, causing the disturbance. Kang hit his 20th home run of the season later in the game. The loss keeps the Pirates 4-1/2 games out of a Wild Card with seven games remaining. They open a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs tonight. The Cubs have the best record in baseball with 98 wins.
Game time is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm.
24-year old Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed with two others in a boating accident early Sunday morning near Miami Beach. Fernandez was 16-8 this season for the Marlins, who are currently tied with the Pirates in the Wild Card chase. He had been scheduled to pitch Sunday. The Miami vs. Atlanta game was cancelled.
