The City of Butler Parks, Recreation Grounds, and Facilities Authority will be able to use equipment loaned from the City of Butler to upgrade their ability to respond to a medical emergency.
During their meeting Thursday night, Butler City Council approved a motion to loan an Automated External Defibrillator or AED machine for use at Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park.
A recent grant has allowed the City Fire Department to secure three new AED machines so one of the old ones, which should still be operational until December of next year, will be loaned to the authority in case of medical emergency at a ball game or event.
The authority will be informed about the condition of the AED, which is a very user-friendly piece of medical equipment. Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala explains:
“There is a diagram to show how to put the electropads on. Pretty much all you have to do is turn the power on– which is clearly indicated– and then follow the instructions on the diagram to apply the electropad,” Switala said. “And then it will give you verbal instructions on when to do CPR, when it’s going to shock, and how to do that.”
According to City Solicitor Tom Breth, there are no liability issues for the city in loaning or giving away surplus equipment to the authority.
