The National Weather Service yesterday confirmed that it was indeed a tornado that touched down in Beaver County Wednesday night.
A tornado warning had been issued at 9:30 p.m.
NWS officials surveyed the damage yesterday, and determined that the twister touched down near Beaver Falls and moved in a northeasterly direction between Ellwood City and Zelienople.
Numerous trees were uprooted and there was other significant damage, but fortunately no injuries.
The tornado was confirmed as an EF-2 storm on the Fijita scale, making it the strongest twister since an EF-3 twister moved through parts of Beaver and Butler Counties on May 31, 1985. That tornado killed nine people.
A handful of Butler County residents are still without power as of this morning. First Energy says 23 homes currently have outages.
