Even though the normal highway and bridge construction program has paused in this time of COVID-19 response, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation continues to work to maintain roadways.
According to PennDOT, a total of 61 emergency and critical projects are currently active across the state.
These projects will utilize strategies that include cleanliness protocols for job sites and offices, social distancing guidelines, procedures to address employee sickness, and safe handling of material deliveries.
To be considered emergency work, these projects need to deal with a specific safety concern such as landslide repairs or critical bridge, tunnel, or drainage repairs. Other PennDOT projects will eliminate roadway restrictions that could prevent the movement of life-sustaining goods and services.
