The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission is encouraging those who might be dealing with financial uncertainty to take advantage of utility assistance programs.
The PUC recommends that financially stressed households contact their utility providers to discuss details and qualifications for customer assistance programs as well as discuss recent financial changes before bills become delinquent.
The PUC has prohibited utilities from terminating service during the current COVID-19 emergency.
Customers are also advised to be aware of suspicious calls and scam artists who pose as utility representatives in order to demand immediate payment or threaten termination of service.
