The public is invited to attend a fundraiser for a local charitable organization this weekend.
Executive Director of the Blind Association of Butler and Armstrong Counties Jennifer Bindernagel is one of the organizers of this annual event.
“We call it the Scoot and Toot. Six or seven years now, we’ve held this race. It’s a nice downhill race. After we run, we eat chili prepared by different members of the Lions Club and we all kind of compete to see who has the best chili,” she said.
The Scoot and Toot begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at Alameda Park.
The Butler Lions Club is a supporter of the Blind Association and this event is their main fundraiser for the year. There will be awards and prizes for participants. There are several easy ways to sign up.
“You can go on the website, butlerpalionclub.org, and there’s a registration page there. The race is also timed by miles for smiles and there is a race registration on their web page. Or you could stop down at the Blind Association and I have applications there.”
Participants will be accepted the day of the event but those signing up before then will be guaranteed a t-shirt. Last year the event raised about $2,000 to help those in need from our community through the Lions Club’s Optical Fund.
