The United States Hockey League will host their Fall Classic East in Butler County later this week.
President of the Butler County Tourism Bureau Jack Cohen said the event will bring millions of dollars into the area.
“This will have an impressive economic impact on Butler County,” Cohen said. “Think of all the things that come with this. Our hotels are booked, our restaurants, stores and banks will be busy. The total impact will probably be close to $2.5 million.”
The classic- which is an opportunity for high school hockey players to showcase their skills in front of NHL scouts- will be held at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township beginning on Thursday.
“We’re hoping this could be something that could come back to us in the next couple of years,” Cohen said. “We’re making sure everything is perfect.”
The tourism bureau recently created a Butler County Sports Commission to help attract sporting events into the county.
