The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 12-6 Labor Monday evening for their seventh loss in a row. The Pirates have fallen one game under .500 at 67-68 overall, and now trail the Cards by 4-1/2 games for the final National League Wild Card spot. Pirate starting pitcher Chad Kuhl struggled through the shortest outing of his rookie season, allowing three earned runs in just two innings, but reliever Jeff Locke allowed the game to get out of hand, allowing seven runs in three innings of relief. The Pirates had 12 hits in the game, including Andrew McCutchen’s 20th home run of the year.
The Bucs and Cards play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:40pm. Ryan Vogelsong will start for the Pirates. (3-4, 3.56 ERA).
Pirate catcher Francisco Cervelli left the game in the fifth inning after injuring the thumb on his catching hand.
