For the third game in a row, the Pirates could not take advantage of a solid start. Left-hander Steven Brault tossed five innings of one-run baseball, serving up a solo homer to Domingo Santana. The bullpen, which allowed five runs Saturday, added nine more Sunday.
The Pirates who are back at .500 for the first time since Aug. 4, (67-67) begin a three-game series today against the St. Louis Cardinals, who on Sunday extended their lead over the Pirates to 3½ games.
