Officials are urging residents to prevent falls during this upcoming ‘fall’ season.
The National Council on Aging reports nearly one-third of adults over 65 fall each year in the U.S.
Rachel Bryson with the Pennsylvania Division of the American Trauma Society says falling is not normal for older adults and is not part of the normal aging process.
Tips:
-Keep your home free of clutter, especially in ‘high-traffic’ areas, so you are less likely to trip
-Ensure your rooms are well-lit
-Have your vision and hearing checked on a regular basis to prevent falls.
-Work to keep your muscles strong and flexible, which will help you retain your strength as you age
