A recent exercise tested the state’s ability to respond to a possible outbreak of the Zika virus in Pennsylvania.
PA Health Secretary Dr. Karen Murphy says the exercise involved a fictitious scenario, where a Pennsylvania woman contracted Zika during a trip to Florida but didn’t rest positive until after she returned home…by which time it had spread to a young child.
“These exercises are tremendously valuable, you have the time to really sit back and think about the event and your response to the event in a calmer situation,” Murphy said.
The Pennsylvania Zika Response Plan is available for the public to look at on the Health Department’s web site, health.pa.gov.
