The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory over the Houston Astros last night at PNC Park. Starting pitcher Ivan Nova, acquired from the New York Yankees at the trade deadline, pitched a complete game while Gregory Polanco hit two home runs. Polanco drove in three runs and scored three times. Matt Joyce and Josh Bell had two hits each. Nova improved to 10-6 overall, and 3-0 with the Pirates. He scattered six hits and allowed just the one run, that coming in the ninth inning. He walked one and struck out six.
The Bucs moved to within 2-1/2 games of the Wild Card after the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the New York Mets.
The Pirates host the Astros today at 12:35pm before heading to Milwaukee to open a four-game series. Gerrit Cole will start for the Bucs today.
