Ben Kennedy held off a late challenge from Brett Moffitt to notch his first career victory in the Camping World Truck Series last night at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kennedy started thirteenth in his Number-33 G-M-S Racing Chevrolet and led just twenty laps, but they were the ones that counted most, at the end of the race. Daniel Suarez seemed to have taken control midway through the second half of the race as he, too, pursued his first Truck Series victory. But a flat tire sent him into the wall and left Suarez with only a twenty-ninth-place finish after leading seventy-seven laps.
There was an ironic twist to the conclusion of last night’s race as Kennedy held off Moffitt in the closing laps. Kennedy, a great-grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Senior, began this season in the Number-11 Red Horse Racing Toyota that Moffitt drove to that second-place finish on Wednesday. But after just three races, Kennedy and Red Horse parted ways, and a short time later, the young driver found a new home at G-M-S Racing.
The racing at Bristol continues Friday with the X-Finity Series. The Sprint Cup Series will race Saturday night.
