A suspected drunken dirt biker is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase.
Zachary McDonnell, 24, of Valencia was arrested early Sunday following an incident that spanned three municipalities.
About 2:30 a.m., a Butler City police officer was on patrol when he spotted a dirt bike traveling southbound on Main Street without lights on. The officer quickly learned officers from Butler and Penn townships had also spotted the same bike traveling on Route 8.
The city officer got behind the bike, activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to pull McDonnell over. But he did not stop, instead crossing the General Butler Bridge and continuing south on Route 8, according to court documents.
McDonnell allegedly continued under the Picklegate Bridge and turned into the main entrance to AK Steel…and then made a U-turn and “grazed” the side of the city cop’s police car, officials say.
McDonnell continued on Route 8 south at a ‘high rate of speed’ before coming to a stop across from Diehl Automotive in Penn Township.
He was arrested and taken to the Butler County Prison. He was charged with several offenses, including driving under the influence.
