Butler Township has agreed to allow the City of Butler to use the services of Fire Marshal Larry Christy if the need arises.
The township commissioners talked Monday night about a letter they received from Butler City Councilwoman Kathy Kline requesting that Christy be available to the city if a situation would require a marshal.
Although the commissioners were concerned that the request seemed to be open-ended, they agreed to help free of charge in the short term. The City of Butler does not currently have anyone in the position of Fire Chief although that could change in the future.
Any request to use Christy would first need to be signed off on by Township Manager Ed Kirkwood.
Butler Township is planning on meeting with the City of Butler, as well as Center Township representatives, next week (Monday, Aug. 22) for a discussion of possibly sharing a common police force.
