A day after the Pittsburgh Pirates were shut-out 4-0, they returned the favor shutting out the San Diego Padres by the same score. Jameson Taillon scattered three hits over eight innings for his third major league victory. He walked two and struck out four. Starling Marte, David Freese and Josh Harrison had two hits each for the Pirates, who improved to 57-55 overall. The Bucs are two games back in the Wild Card Chase.
The Pirates visit the Los Angeles Dodgers beginning tonight. The Dodgers are the top Wild Card team, and trail the San Francisco Giants by one game in the N.L. West. Ivan Nova will start for the Pirates tonight. First pitch is 10:10pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 9:45pm.
The Pirates play at 4:05pm Saturday and 4:10pm Sunday.
The West Virginia Miners opened the Prospect League Championship with a lobsided 10-0 victory over the Quincy Gems. The Gems had just one hit in the game. Quincy will host game two Saturday evening.
