Denver, Colorado-based Furniture Row Racing announced over the weekend that it was expanding to a two-car team for next year’s Sprint Cup Series. 20-year-old Erik Jones, currently driving for Joe Gibbs Racing’s X-FINITY Series program, will wheel the Number-77 Toyota as a teammate to Martin Truex Junior, who recently signed a contract extension with the organization.
Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick and Mark Martin – all of whom will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame next year – will serve as grand marshals for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, September 4th. They’ll give the command to start engines for the race, which will again feature throwback paint schemes honoring NASCAR’s history and heritage.
