Even with the wet weather at the collection day in July, the Butler community came together to collect more than expected to assist the flood victims in West Virginia.
“The residents of Butler County and Butler City, along with our church people, really, really came through,” Graceway Community Church Pastor Dave West said. “When it all came down, we figured that there’s right around somewhere between $25,000 to $30,000 worth of stuff that we took down there.”
Graceway filled a trailer, a minibus, and the bed of a pickup truck with materials including cleaning supplies and water to help West Virginia residents.
Although the supplies Graceway collected helped many people, a need still exists for cleanup in that area. A couple local organizations continue to be involved in relief efforts.
“Over in Cranberry, the United Methodists have a crisis center over there, it’s on Freedom Road,” West said. “They would have some access to it and possibly the Church of the Nazarene down in that area would be a contact place.”
In addition to donated supplies, people from as far as Harrisville and New Castle donated $1,600, which was used to purchase items not donated.
