IUP was selected as the PSAC-West pre-season favorite Monday at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s annual football media day. The Crimson Hawks received five first-place votes. Slippery Rock is picked second and received two first-place votes. California, Clarion and Gannon round out the top five. IUP and SRU tied for first in the PSAC-West last season, but The Rock went on to win the PSAC Championship over West Chester thanks to a 40-39 win over Indiana during the regular season. The Rock has one of three first-year head coaches in the West this season. Shawn Lutz takes over for the now-retired George Mihalik.
Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Senquez Golson had surgery on his foot Monday, and is likely to miss the next four months. He was injured in last Monday’s practice.
The Steelers practice today at 2:55pm and welcome the Detroit Lions to their practice. The teams play at Heinz Field Friday.
