The former director of Butler County’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority- who was fired last year after he was accused of neglecting his duties- will get his job back, according to a ruling by the Pennsylvania Civil Service Commission.
Perry O’Malley was fired in March of 2015 after the authority’s board members said he abused travel, expenses and leave time. He vehemently denied the board’s claims and said he was fired because of his age and politics.
O’Malley challenged his dismissal. Testimony continued for weeks from both sides before the Pennsylvania Civil Service Commission.
According to report released Tuesday, the commissioners ruled O’Malley be reinstated to his job…other than a thirty-day suspension.
The Butler County Housing and Redevelopment Authority does have the option to appeal.
O’Malley had been the executive director for 23 years.
