The Public Utility Commission will hold hearings Thursday in Lyndora concerning a proposed West Penn Power rate increase.
The hearings are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Tanglewood Center.
The proposed increase would raise the average customer’s monthly bill by almost ten percent.
According to the AARP, West Penn is proposing to increase the monthly residential customer charge from $5.81 to $13.98, meaning if you turned off all electric appliances in your home and sat in the dark, you would still owe West Penn $13.98 per month.
The PUC has until January 27th to make a decision about the proposed rate increase.
