Francisco Liriano returned to his struggling ways last night as he couldn’t get out of the fourth inning in the 7-4 loss for the Pirates to the Seattle Mariners.
Liriano allowed seven runs, over eight hits, while walking four. Liriano also allowed two home runs, even though he hit one himself.
The Pirates got off to an early start against Mariners starter Felix Hernandez, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Gregory Polanco aided that effort in the first inning with his 13th home run of the season.
Hernandez would settle in and eventually go six innings, not allowing another run after the second inning.
The Pirates did have chances seemingly every inning to score runners, but left nine runners on base.
The Bucs look to split the two game series before they head to Milwaukee. Gerrit Cole (5-6, 2.99 ERA) gets the nod for the Pirates while the Mariners will go with James Paxton (3-4, 4.18 ERA).
