The South Butler School Board has decided to expel three students who allegedly violated the district’s drug policy.
Although the students were not named, four adults spoke in their defense during Wednesday night’s school board meeting. According to one of the speakers, several students used marijuana at another location before going to class on the last day of school. District administrators would not confirm or deny specifics of the incident.
After originally considering a full year expulsion, the five board members voted in favor of allowing the students to apply for readmission at the end of the first semester of the next school year. Two board members abstained and two others were absent. The students will also be not allowed to participate in extracurricular activities.
The students and their parents will be given the choice to attend an Adelphoi Educational support program or the district’s cyber school.
