It’s been over two years since you started paying more in gas taxes…but do you know where that money is going?
Act 89 of 2013 raised the wholesale tax on gasoline, an expense instantly passed on to you at the pump. Since then, PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards says road crews have been busy putting that money to work.
“We are on track to aboard $2.4 billion in construction contracts this year for roughly 820 highway and bridge projects…that compares to only $1.5 billion we would have been able to do prior to Act 89’s passage,” Richards says.
Richards says Act 89 is also helping the state tackle its bridge problems.
“We are making heading on the structurally-deficient bridge problem,” she says.
PennDOT’s new public-private partnerships are also helping with bridge repairs.
