The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Ben Cherington as their new general manager Monday. Cherington brings 20-plus seasons of baseball operations experience to the Pirates organization. He spent 17 seasons as a member of the Boston Red Sox organization, including four as executive vice president/general manager. Cherington was Boston’s GM when they won the World Series in 2013. He most recently was with the Toronto Blue Jays.
