Pennsylvania lawmakers took a major step toward a new state budget Monday night.
The House Appropriations Committee advanced a $31 billion proposal assembled by the Republican majority.
Neither the Senate nor Gov. Tom Wolf has signed off on the bill, which includes a $200 million boost for education and money to address Pennsylvania’s opioid drug crisis.
The state’s new fiscal year begins Friday.
