Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford was named the general manager of the year last night at the annual NHL Awards held in Las Vegas. The 67-year old Rutherford has now led two separate franchises to a Stanley Cup. He was gm for Carolina when they won in 2006.
The NHL also released its First team All-Stars list for the season. Pens captain Sidney Crosby was named to the first team. Defenseman Kris Letang was named to the second team.
The NHL Board of Governors also officially approved an expansion team for Las Vegas beginning with the 2017-18 season. Each team will lose one player in an expansion draft next June.
