The annual NHL awards ceremony will be held tonight in Las Vegas beginning at 7pm. Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford is one of three finalists, and could be the favorite, for the GM of the year. Brian MacLellan and Jim Nill of Dallas are the other finalists. Sidney Crosby is a finalist for the Hart Trophy, which is the NHL’s Most Valuable Player award. It is expected to be won by Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane, who won the NHL scoring title. Now retired forward Pascal Dupuis is a finalist for the Masterton Trophy, which recognizes perserverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
The entire NHL schedule for 2016-17 was released Tuesday. Following the Penguins home opener October 13th against Washington, the Pens will host Anaheim and Colorado. Their first road game will be October 18th.
The NHL season will be delayed by the World Cup and will create more back-to-back games and three-game stretches than usual during the season.
