The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped a five-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants last night at PNC Park. It was the opening game of a four-game series with the National League West Division leaders, and the Pirate win snapped a Giants eight-game winning streak. Jeff Locke outpitched Madison Bumgarner, holding San Francisco scoreless on five hits over 6 2/3rds innings. Pirates catcher Eric Kratz hit his first home run of the season, for the only run of the game off Bumgarner in the fifth inning. It was his first hit since joining the Pirates last week. Bumgarner had not lost since mid-April, and Locke had allowed 18 earned runs over his past two starts.
The Bucs and Giants play again tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Wilfredo Boscan will be called up from Indianapolis tonight to make a spot start for the Pirates. Johnny Cueto (10-1) will start for the Giants.
