South Butler School Board members could choose as soon as next month about moving forward with a plan to change the name of the district.
Superintendent Dr. David Foley included a motion about changing the district’s name to Knoch on the Wednesday night agenda however that motion was tabled since three newly elected board members will officially join the group next month.
Foley explained the process that he has gone through to find out the proper procedure to make the change which included discussions with the state Department of Education as well as instruction from state representative Marci Mustello.
Foley believes that the name change process would only cost about $5,000 which would mostly be made up of changing the outdoor signs. A vote by the school board is one of the early steps in this process so even with approval next month, the name change would likely not become official until July or August of 2020.
