The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls softball team defeated Monessen 3-2 yesterday in the WPIAL Class-A consolation game. The victory earns the Lady Trojans a spot in the upcoming state playoffs.
The Knoch and Mars baseball teams will attempt to do the same when they meet in the WPIAL Triple-A consolation game at Washington & Jefferson College tonight at 7pm. The winner will advance into the state tournament. Knoch is the defending state champions, while Mars won Section 5 this year over the Knights.
Moniteau will face Karns City in the District 9 Double-A championship game this afternoon at Clarion-Limestone high school. Game time is 4:30pm.
