Knoch high school’s Jordan Geist won the state championship in the shot put Friday, setting a new state record. Geist had a throw of 74′-3” – topping the old record from 2005 by more than four feet. That record had been set by Ryan Whiting of Central Dauphin high school, who went on to compete in the 2012 Olympics. Geist became only the fourth athlete to throw a shot put 74 feet in the history of U.S. high school track and field.
Geist, a junior, also won the PIAA championship in the discus Saturday at Shippensburg University. He became only the third athelete in state history to win both the discus and shot put championships two years in a row.
