Twenty Butler High School students received $1,000 scholarships in memory of a local classmate.
The family of Ethan Linnon, who was killed last year in a car crash, created a scholarship fund in Ethan’s name with the help of donations. In order to apply, students had to write a piece on how Ethan’s approach to life affected them.
The family said in a statement that their original idea was to offer 12 scholarships but they decided to increase the number to 20 because of how touching the students’ essays were and how it reminded them that their son had made a difference in the lives of many.
The Ethan Linnon Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be held June 11 in Alameda Park.
