A local lawmaker wants to prevent a repeat of what happened with funding being withheld due to a state budget stalemate.
Democratic Representative Jaret Gibbons, who represents portions of Butler, Beaver, and Lawrence counties, introduced House Bill 2077 earlier this week.
Under Gibbons’ proposal, if a budget is not enacted by July 1, all line items from the previous year’s budget will continue to receive the same funding with the exception of those dealing with the Governor’s office and the state legislature.
Many loans taken by schools and social service providers cost those agencies thousands of dollars in interest due to the lengthy dispute.
