All of the WPIAL baseball playoff games were cancelled Wednesday and moved to today.
In the Triple-A quarterfinals:
Knoch (13-6) will face Montour (14-3) at Fox Chapel high school today at 2pm.
Mars (13-5) will meet Hopewell (15-6) at the Burkett Complex in Robinson Township at 4:30pm.
In Quad-A: Pine-Richland (17-4) will meet Canon-McMillan (13-7) at North Allegheny high school at 4pm.
In District 10: the baseball playoffs begin Monday. Grove City will face Strong Vincent in the opening round. The winner will meet Slippery Rock, who received first round “bye”.
WPIAL softball playoffs:
Knoch defeated Montour 6-5. The Knights Jessi Reed drove in three runs, including a 7th inning home run to break a 5-5 tie and sent Knoch to the quarterfinals. They will meet top-seeded Thomas Jefferson Monday.
Beaver eliminated Mars with a 4-1 decision.
In Double-A: Freeport defeated McGuffey 8-4. The Yellow Jackets play again Monday in the quarterfinals. They meet the winner of today’s game between South Park and Southside Beaver.
Deer Lakes ousted Carmichaels 6-0 Wednesday. They meet the winner of today’s game between Laurel and Bentworth.
In District-9 softball: Karns City defeated Keystone 12-2.
WPIAL boys lacrosse playoffs: Mars-18 Latrobe-3. The Planets will meet Moon Monday in the semifinals.
WPIAL girls lacrosse playoffs: Mars-21 Hempfield-6. The Planets get the winner of today’s Bethel Park-Shaler match in the semi-finals.
The WPIAL Individual track and field championships will be held today at Baldwin high school. Butler will send 28 athletes to the meet today.
WPIAL CLASS Triple-A Volleyball Quarterfinals tonight:
The Seneca Valley Raiders will face the Norwin Knights at Penn-Trafford High School at 6:00pm.
The North Allegheny Tigers will host the Pine-Richland Rams at 7:30pm.
The Pine-Richland football team will be featured on the first ESPN high school football broadcast of the season this year. The Rams will play St. Edward high school in Lakewood, Ohio August 27th. St. Edward has won back-to-back Ohio state championships. Pine-Richland sophomore quarterback Phil Jurkovec just announced this week his committment to Notre Dame.
