Reports of smoke in the Allegheny Valley School in Slippery Rock turned out to be nothing serious Wednesday afternoon.
Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company Chief Ken Taggart told our newsroom “When we arrived there was a light smoke in the building and an electrical smell of burning. It ended up being a rooftop unit that just smoked a belt so it wasn’t anything major.”
Taggart was among those responding to the call in the 100 block of Rebecca Lane shortly before 1 p.m. Units from Harrisville, Unionville, and Mercer County also arrived on scene.
Students and staff evacuated the building by the time firefighters arrived on scene. Although no one was seriously injured, one firefighter did require treatment.
“We had a guy that got electrocuted. He got transported to be evaluated. Nothing major, he’s already out of the hospital,” Taggart explained.
Units cleared the scene in about an hour and a half.
