Local hunters should be aware of a change in the spring turkey season that will continue through the end of the month.
Beginning today (Monday), turkey hunters are permitted to hunt from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset.
All day hunting during the second half of the spring season began in 2011 to encourage participation. The change to all day hunting also has minimal impact on nesting this time of year.
Even with the change, a large majority of turkeys harvested are done so in the morning. The PA Game Commission will continue to monitor afternoon harvests for how this change is impacting the population.
