The Butler Area school board will vote Monday on a budget that includes a 3-mill tax hike.
The property tax increase will help fill a projected $4 million deficit. The district’s expected expenditures total $104 million but only $100 million is expected in revenue. A 3-mill tax hike means the average district property owner would pay about $53 more than last year.
Aside from the tax increase, the district will use money from their general fund to cover costs. Officials had talked about increasing student activity and parking fees but ultimately decided to hold off.
If the board passes the budget tonight, it will be publicly posted for review for 30 days before it’s adopted.
