The Butler Area School District is warning parents after a man asked a young student if she needed a ride to school.
The incident happened Thursday morning while the student was waiting at her bus stop.
According to the district, the student was approached by a black male in a silver SUV in the Ziegler Avenue/Kaufman Drive vicinity. The man stopped and asked if the student needed a ride. When the student replied “no”, he drove away. The student was not hurt.
Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley sent a letter home to parents urging them to be alert and aware while their children are at the bus stop, both before and after school.
The letter stated:
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
This is to inform you that the Butler City Police notified us that a student reported that he/she was approached by a black male driving a silver SUV in the Zeigler Avenue/Kaufman Drive vicinity. The man stopped and asked if the student needed a ride to school. When the student replied “no”, he drove off. These are all of the details that we have.
Please be alert and aware while your children are at the bus stop, both before and after school. If you observe something that seems suspicious, please be sure to report that information either to the principal or to the police. Our goal is to keep our parent community informed so that together we can work to maintain the safety of our students.
