Governor Tom Wolf hosted a panel Wednesday to discuss local and statewide efforts to combat the growing opioid and heroin epidemic in Pennsylvania.
“Fighting Pennsylvania’s opioid and heroin epidemic is a top priority for my administration,” Gov. Wolf said. “The community leaders here today work diligently everyday to ensure that Pennsylvania leads the nation in the fight to combat the opioid abuse and heroin use crisis. This panel is an opportunity to discuss how we can work more collaboratively with the folks on the ground of this crisis.”
The governor said that while our state has one of the nation’s highest opioid addiction rates, it’s also emerging as a leader in addressing the crisis.
Including expanding treatment services and the availability of Naloxone, which reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.
“Every Pennsylvanian has access to Naloxone if they are found to be a victim of an overdose,” he said.
Officials say abused prescription medication is killing more people in our state then guns, heroin and car accidents.
