The South Butler School Board will consider a recommendation from administrators to cut staff despite objections from concerned residents.
Over 75 residents attended Wednesday night’s South Butler agenda-setting school board meeting, including ten who spoke to the board in opposition to the cuts. Several even mentioned their willingness to pay higher taxes in order to keep current staff intact.
District administrators- including Superintendent Dr. David Zupsic- presented the board with information about how district enrollment has fallen by almost 500 students over the past 12 years.
The administrators propose eliminating one full-time art position and changing another full-time art position into a part-time position. Also, a full-time physical education position would become a part-time position. Under that plan, the district would not be eliminating any classes or course offerings chosen by students.
South Butler school board members will vote on the proposal at their next regular monthly meeting on Wednesday (5/11).
