The 1,000 Veteran March planned for June has been postponed.
Director of Veteran Services for Butler County John Cyprian explained to the commissioners during a meeting Wednesday that June 14 was simply not a good day to hold the event because of conflicts with high school graduations and other community activities.
“Great concept, wrong day,” Cyprian said. June 14 was initially selected because it’s the U.S. Army’s birthday.
He noted only a few hundred veterans had signed up. The deadline to register was this past weekend.
The march will be rescheduled. It may likely be incorporated into Veterans Day.
“Our committee is meeting Thursday to decide where to go from here,” Cyprian said.
This was to be the first march of its kind in downtown Butler, bringing together veterans and active duty soldiers from all branches of service to benefit the Veterans In Need Foundation.
