A merger between UPMC and Jameson Health System in New Castle is now official.
The New Castle hospital will now be known as UPMC Jameson.
UPMC will invest $75 million in the hospital and another $10 million to recruit doctors. UPMC will also maintain all contracts Jameson currently has with health plans through their expiration.
The state attorney general’s office initially rejected the merger out of concern that it could reduce competition in the region and drive up medical costs but ultimately decided it was the best offer for Jameson.
