No decision is imminent but South Butler School District is considering the possibility of teacher layoffs for next school year.
District solicitor Tom Breth told our newsroom “The board’s been working with the administration to discuss personnel needs so I don;t know how that went from the board having private discussions with the administration to the rumors that are circulated out there.”
According to Breth, South Butler has been discussing the idea in closed executive sessions due to declining enrollment.
The next meeting of the South Butler School Board is scheduled for this Wednesday (5/4) at 7 p.m. at Knoch Middle School and Breth believes that the topic will be discussed.
“It’s my understanding that the board’s going to receive a presentation this Wednesday at their agenda setting meeting. I don’t know that there will be any action taken by the board at that time,” Breth explained.
The district has been without a contract with their teachers for nearly two years but Breth says that situation has nothing to do with discussions about possible layoffs.
